Our harvesters are custodians of the natural resources in the periphery of their settlements. The government of Botswana, through the community based natural resources management policy of 2007, has given authority to rural dwellers over natural resources surrounding their settlements. This authority granted in the basis that rural communities suffer the worst cost of conservation, allows communities to trade with natural resources in manageable and sustainable means, guided by various custodian departments. As an establishment, we work with communities to establish markets for their natural resources, enhancing the potential of rural communities to generate income to be ploughed back into conservation efforts thereby creating employment. Our relationship with communities isn't only trade oriented but also focuses on community capacity building, aiding communities to adopt more effective conservation methods. In so doing, our entity supports the sustainable development goals most notably zero poverty by 2030 .Our registered Harvesters with permits from the Ministry of Environment \& Tourism through the Department of Forestry \& Range Resources are fulltime community members where our wild Devil's Claw is harvested. Each team is made of 50 members and up to 100 teams from each community make up the seasonal harvest. Records of produce are recorded to trace material to the individual cluster or harvester and the area it was done.It is without a doubt that rural communities have for a long time utilized the devils claw for various ailments. As such, they have developed a skill in harvesting this herb which has been passed from generation to the next. As an entity we support and ensure preservation through continuous engagement of veteran harvesters, training of new harvesters and inter regional harvester's forums. The harvesting season begins April and ends in September every year. In this period, the herb would be ripe having been allowed enough flowering and fruiting period from October to March of the following year. The devil's claw harvesting though regulated by the government, it is in most cases upon the communities to practice sustainable harvesting methods as custodians of natural resources in their surroundings. Our entity ensures sustainable harvesting methods not only through training and capacitating but through presence and monitoring of harvesting processes. The herb is dug down and only its lateral roots cut out for processing. The tap roots are left untouched, and then the holes filled back with soil to allow for the re-growth of the plant. This, in our terms, equates to sustainable harvesting, supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for life on land.Harvesting of the Devil's Claw is a generational skill, it takes years of observation and practice to learn the craft. Harvesting entails digging up the secondary roots which are thick tubers of about  8cm and 25cm in length. The tubers are harvested, cleaned, sliced and dried. The dried materials are brought to the central processing for cleaning, sorting and packaging and ready for marketing where more value addition will take place.
